April 14, 2003 BLUE HOSE
SWEEP SAC BASEBALL PLAYERS OF THE WEEK
ROCK HILL, S.C.
– Presbyterian College first baseman Matt
Warren (Lexington, S.C.) and staff ace Richard
Barkley (Sumter, S.C.) have given the Blue Hose a
sweep of the South Atlantic Conference’s Position Player and
Pitcher of the Week. The
Blue Hose played just three games due to weather, but make the
most of the weekend, winning all three against SAC foe
Newberry College. The sweep vaulted PC into a second-place tie
in the league, a half-game out of the top spot with one
weekend left. The Blue Hose are 21-22 overall and enjoy an
11-6 SAC mark. This
marks the fifth time a school has swept the Player of the Week
Honors and the second time Presbyterian has accomplished the
feat this season.
Barkley
leads the SAC in wins with a 7-2 record, and also in ERA with
a 1.69 ERA. With his nine strikeouts he now has 75 total this
season. The South
Atlantic Conference players of the week are determined by a
vote of the league’s eight Sports Information Directors.
