PRESBYTERIAN BASEBALL RETURNS TO NCAA
TOURNAMENT

| CLINTON,
S.C. — The
Presbyterian College baseball team has received a bid to the
2003 NCAA Division II Baseball Championship Tournament
announced today by the NCAA Division II Baseball Committee.
The
committee selected 32 teams to participate in this year’s
championship tournament and the Blue Hose are the No. 3 seed
in the South Regional. Presbyterian will be making their
second appearance in postseason play and first since 1998. |

The
Blue Hose (27-24) will face the No. 2 seed University of Tampa
(38-16) in Game #1 to open the four-team, double-elimination
tournament which will be played this Thursday through Saturday
in Lakeland, Fla. PC and Tampa will open the tournament with a
1:00 pm game on Thursday. In the night cap, No. 4 seed
Tusculum College (33-18) and the host institution and top seed
Florida Southern College (42-11) will play at 7:00 pm in Game
#2. Friday’s schedule will start with Game #3 at 11:00 am
pitting the loser of the two games on Thursday. At 3:00 pm,
Game #4 will pit the winner of Game #1 vs. winner of Game #2
and the final game on Friday is Game #5 with the winner of
Game #3 vs. Loser of Game #4. On Saturday, the winner of Game
#4 and Game #5 will play in the championship. The if necessary
game will take place later on that day if needed.
Eight
regional competitions will be played at eight on-campus sites
this weekend. Regional
champions will advance to the double-elimination championship
finals May 24-31, 2003, at Paterson Field in Montgomery, Ala.,
which will be hosted by Valdosta State University and the city
of Montgomery.
The
Blue Hose will close out the regular season portion of their
schedule today when they travel to Kennesaw, Ga. to face the
Owls of Kennesaw State University for a pair of seven-inning
games scheduled to start at 2:00 pm. The
Owls, who also received a postseason bid, are the #3
seed in the NCAA Division II South Atlantic Regional which
will be hosted by the University of North Florida in
Jacksonville, Fla.
