BLUE HOSE SWEEP SAC BASEBALL PLAYERS OF THE WEEK

ROCK HILL, S.C. — Presbyterian College outfielder Kevin White and pitcher Richard Barkley helped the Blue Hose earn a sweep of the South Atlantic Conference Baseball Players of the Week, league officials announced today. The Blue Hose put together a 3-1 week, including a win at #19 USC Aiken. The Blue Hose are at an even 4-4 after last week’s play. PC follows Tusculum in sweeping the honors for the league.

White, a 6-2 junior from Spartanburg, S.C. and pre-season All-SAC and All-American selection, was two-for-five at the plate with four RBI, including a three-run homer in the 14-8 win over USC Aiken. In a three game series versus West Alabama, White was six-for-12 at the plate with a triple and five RBI as Presbyterian won two of three at home against the Tigers. In the final game of the series, the former Spartanburg High School standout scored the game-winning run in the bottom of the tenth inning in a 5-4 win.

He was eight-for-17 (.470 BA) for the week, with a homer, a triple and nine RBI. White is batting .412 on the season with two homeruns and a team-best 13 RBI.

Barkley, a 6-1 senior from Sumter, S.C. and pre-season All-SAC and All-American selection, threw seven solid innings in the 14-8 win over the #19 Pacers. The former Lakewood High School star scattered seven hits with no walks and gave up three runs (only one earned) while striking out seven in his outing to get his first win of the season.

Barkley has a 1-1 record with a 3.75 ERA with 12 strikeouts this season.

The South Atlantic Conference players of the week are determined by a vote of the league’s eight Sports Information Directors.
