#7 TAMPA 11, PRESBYTERIAN 3 
GAME 1 NCAA DIV. II SOUTH REGIONAL

LAKELAND, FL — Tampa’s Wally Quigg had four hits to pace the Spartans’ 19-hit attack in an 11-3 win over Presbyterian in the opening game of the NCAA Division II South Regional at Lakeland, Fla., Friday.  The win advances Tampa (39-16) to Friday’s 3 p.m. game against Florida Southern.  Presbyterian (27-27) faces Tusculum in an elimination game at 11 a.m. Friday.

In addition to Quigg’s four hits, Matt Armstrong and Tim Duff each had three.  All three of Armstrong’s hits were doubles, which matched a school record.  Altogether, seven of the Spartans’ hits were doubles.  Eric Beattie pitched into the eighth inning to improve his record to 13-2.

The Blue Hose were led at the plate by senior first baseman Matt Warren and junior designated hitter Heath McCutcheon who each tallied a pair of hits versus the Spartans. Presbyterian’s Kevin White was hitless in four at-bats, ending his school-record 42-game hitting streak.
