PC BASEBALL STANDOUT KEVIN WHITE LEADS NEW MARKET REBELS TO Lineweaver Cup Finals AND NAMED ALL-VALLEY LEAGUE

CLINTON, S.C. — Presbyterian College’s rising senior outfielder Kevin White has had an impressive summer playing for the New Market Rebels of the Valley wooden bat league.

White, a native of Spartanburg, S.C., started 45 of 49 games in the outfield for the New Market (VA) Rebels while leading his team to a playoff berth and a trip to the Lineweaver Cup Finals. For his efforts, White was named All-Valley league after leading the league during the regular season in homeruns (11) for the second summer in a row as well as hits (57), RBI (40), and total bases (109). Last summer White also played for the New Market Rebels and tied for the league-lead in homeruns (10). For the summer, he hit .315 at the plate.

In the opening round of the playoffs, White keyed the Rebels series win over the Staunton Braves 3-1 by hitting a series-clinching triple in game #4 as New Market prevailed 3-2 in 10 innings. In the series deciding game, White went two-for-three with a double and a triple.

In the Lineweaver Cup finals, White led the Rebels against the Winchester Royals which the Royals won three games to two. In the championship round, White hit a pair of homeruns and added three RBI while collecting hits in four of five games. Winchester clinched the title on August 7 with a 6-4 win over the Rebels.

In addition, he finished the regular season ranked second in the league in slugging percentage (.602), tied third in runs (36) and doubles (11) and fourth in triples (4). White also finished third in the voting for league MVP honors with 31 total points and two first place votes voted on by area media. Jeff Van Houten of the University of Arizona won MVP honors after leading the league in batting average and slugging percentage.

White, a 6-2, 180-lb center fielder, once again led the Blue Hose offense this past spring. The ABCA All-Region and All-SAC selection led PC hitters with a .397 batting average, 85 hits, 144 total bases, 56 runs, 50 RBI, and 13 homeruns and set a program record with a 42-game hitting streak during the season.

He now holds the career record for homeruns (36), batting average (.379), and slugging percentage (.615) in Blue Hose history as well as ranking fifth in runs (155), fourth in hits (243), second in total bases (408), and third in RBI (163).
