BLUE HOSE & INDIANS SPLIT SAC BASEBALL DOUBLEHEADER
SALISBURY,
NC –
Presbyterian College and host Catawba College split a South
Atlantic Conference baseball doubleheader on Saturday at
Newman Park.
Richard
Barkley (Sumter, SC) tossed a seven-hit complete game
as
Presbyterian won the opener 8-1, while Spence Southard
(Greensboro, NC)
hit a walk-off home run as Catawba took the nightcap 3-2.
Presbyterian is now
12-14 overall and 5-2 in the SAC, while the Indians are 18-12
and 5-3.
The
Blue Hose got back-to-back two-out home runs from Heath
McCutcheon (Newberry, SC) and Kevin
White (Spartanburg, SC) to grab a
2-0 lead after a half inning.
Chad Hill (Bennett, NC) led off the Tribe first
with a homer to cut the margin to 2-1, but Presbyterian pulled
away late for the
win.
McCutcheon
drove home a run in the third on a ground out and
delivered a two-run single in the fifth for a 5-1 Blue Hose
lead. Presbyterian
took advantage of a pair of Tribe errors in the sixth to tack
on three more runs.
That
was more than enough for Barkley, who walked two and struck
out six in
his complete game effort, allowing just the single run on
seven hits. McCutcheon was 4-for-5 with four RBI, while Tombo
Hite (Abbeville, SC)
was 3-for-4. Scott
Searles (Boston, MA) had a pair of hits for the Tribe.
