BLUE HOSE AND EAGLES SPLIT BASEBALL DOUBLEHEADER

CLINTON, S.C. –Presbyterian (11-13, 4-1) moved into first place of the South Atlantic Conference baseball standing today as it split a doubleheader with Carson-Newman College (11-12, 2-3) at the PC Baseball Complex.

GAME 1:  PRESBYTERIAN 3, CARSON-NEWMAN 1

Blue Hose senior starting pitcher Richard Barkley (Sumter, SC) went seven strong innings today, scattering five hits for one run and striking out four batters, as he picked up his third win of the season to improve to 3-2 on the year.  Senior short stop Davis Rice (Clinton, SC) provided the offensive spark for PC as he went two-for-three at the plate with two RBI.

Eagles starting pitcher John Wallace (Marietta, GA) took the loss going six innings giving up three earned runs off of nine hits while striking out four batters.

GAME 2:  CARSON-NEWMAN 8, PRESBYTERIAN 4

In game two it was all Eagles as they touched up Blue Hose junior starting pitcher Travis Hill (Rock Hill, SC) for seven runs and went on to defeat PC 8-4.  With two outs in the first inning senior first baseman Ricky Luttrell (Knoxville, TN) started a rally that gave C-N a 3-0 lead after one inning.  The Eagles never looked back as they put two more on in the second and fourth inning as well as one run in the fifth to take an 8-1 lead. 

Leading the charge for the Eagles was junior catcher Wes Ward (Marietta, GA) who went five-of-seven in the two games with one RBI and two runs.

PC rallied for two in the seventh inning but Eagles starting pitcher Derrick Calkin (Maryville, TN) kept the Blue Hose bats relatively quiet throughout the second game as he went the distance scattering nine hits for three runs and four strikeouts.

The Blue Hose will return to action this Tuesday as they travel to Due West, SC to take on Erskine College in a game scheduled to begin at 2:30 pm.  The Eagles will also play Tuesday as they take on King College at 2:00 pm in Jefferson City, TN.
