BLUE HOSE DEFEAT FLYING FLEET 11-3 IN BASEBALL ACTION

CLINTON, S.C. –Presbyterian College soundly defeated Erskine College today 11-3 with great pitching, timely hitting, and solid defense to improve to 5-4 while dropping Erskine to 11-2 on the season.

The Blue Hose knocked in 11 runs on 15 hits against six Flying Fleet pitchers.  PC scored first in the second inning and then put up five runs in the fifth and another three in the sixth inning.  The Blue Hose finished with a run each of the final two innings to finish off the scoring.  Senior first baseman Matt Warren (Lexington, SC) went three-for-four from the plate scoring three runs and getting one RBI.  Senior third baseman Davis Rice (Clinton, SC) also had a big day at the plate going three-for-five driving in four runs and scoring two more.

Erskine scored their only runs of the game in the seventh inning.  Sophomore second baseman Wes Edwards (Anderson, SC) legged out an infield single with two outs to prolong the inning and scored freshman pinch runner Joe Iademarco (North Charleston, SC).  The Flying Fleet put another two on the board off of another hit and an error by the Blue Hose.

Presbyterian College used six pitchers on the day and were led on the mound by sophomore lefthanded pitcher Zachary Matthews (Batesburg, SC) who went four innings to pick up the win and allowed only one hit while striking out three on the day.  Erskine freshman lefthanded pitcher Jason Moore (Gainesville, GA) picked up the loss after going four innings while scattering seven hits and allowing four earned runs.

The Flying Fleet will be back at home Friday, as they take on St. Andrews College at 2:30 pm in the first game of a three-game series.  The Blue Hose will travel down to Lakeland, Florida to participate in the Florida Southern College Invitational and take on #4-ranked Florida Southern College at 7:00 pm tomorrow.
