FLYING FLEET SWEEP BLUE HOSE IN DOUBLEHEADER 6-4 AND 9-5

CLINTON, S.C. – Presbyterian College baseball had a long afternoon as they dropped two games to Erskine College 6-4 and 9-5.  The Blue Hose fall to 15-21 on the season while the Flying Fleet improve to 23-14 overall. 

Game 1:  PC – 4, Erskine - 6

PC picked up a run in the seventh inning to tie the game 4-4, but two run ninth inning put EC up for good as they defeated the Blue Hose 6-4.  Erskine was led in by junior third baseman Brett Smagala (Mt. Airy, MD) who was 3-3 with a double and three RBI.   

Freshman starting pitcher Steve Wilkerson (Marion, NC) went two and a third scoreless innings, striking out three to pick up his first collegiate win.  For Presbyterian sophomore pitcher Matt Boone (Kernersville, NC) picked up the loss after going three and a third innings and falls to 0-3 on the season.

Game 2:  PC – 5, Erskine – 9

EC’s offense exploded late in game two, to blow open a 1-1 game.  Smagala delivered the biggest blow, hitting a grand slam in the sixth inning.  He finished the game 1-2 with five RBI.  The Blue Hose made a charge in the fifth when redshirt freshman Lance Howard (Simpsonville, SC) homered over the left field fence.  In the sixth inning junior pinch hitter Curtis Bell (Gilbert, SC) hit a three run homerun, but PC was unable to cut into the Flying Fleet lead before the game was called due to darkness. 

EC junior starting pitcher Daniel Howard (Pleasant Grove, AL) picked up the win in five and two thirds innings.  Blue Hose freshman starting pitcher Bryan Cromer (Columbia, SC) took the loss and falls to 1-1 overall.
