#4 FLORIDA SOUTHERN HOLDS OFF BLUE HOSE 1-0

LAKELAND, FLA. -- Florida Southern's Logan Roberts drilled a one-out single to right to score Jeff Lucas in the bottom of the ninth, giving the fourth-ranked Moccasins a 1-0 win over Presbyterian Friday night in the Lakeland Electric Spring Classic.

The win was Florida Southern's ninth straight and improved their record to 9-1.  Presbyterian drops to 5-5.  Lucas had doubled to lead off the ninth for the Moccasins.  After Jared Powers sacrificed him to third, Everett Jones and pinch-hitter Ryan Anderson were intentionally passed to bring up Roberts, who was batting for Gilbert Martinez

Presbyterian's Richard Barkley and Florida Southern's Ryan Thompson had been locked in a masterful pitchers' duel for eight-and-a-half innings before Roberts delivered the game-winning blow.  Barkley, now 1-2, had scattered just four hits through eight innings.  Thompson improved to 3-0 with his complete-game effort. He also gave up just four hits, struck out six and walked five.

The Lakeland Electric Spring Classic continues Saturday with Presbyterian meeting Lynn at 1 p.m. and Florida Southern taking on Valdosta State at 4 p.m.
