COLLEGE SWEEPS BLUE HOSE IN TODAY’S BASEBALL DOUBLEHEADER CLINTON,
S.C. — The
Jamestown College Jimmies of North Dakota took a pair of games
from the Presbyterian College Blue Hose 7-6 and 9-2 in
today’s non-conference baseball doubleheader at the PC
Baseball Complex. GAME
#1 — JAMESTOWN 7, PRESBYTERIAN 6 Jamestown’s
junior third baseman Jordan
Blundell (Edmonton, Alberta) hit a game-winning single in
the top of the ninth inning scoring two runs as the Jimmies
came from behind to defeat the Blue Hose 7-6 in the first
game. PC
led 6-5 entering the ninth inning behind the strong play at
the plate by redshirt junior right fielder Joseph Bishop
(Greenwood, S.C.) who went three-of-four with three RBI
including a eight inning solo homerun that broke a 5-5 tie.
Bishop also had a two-RBI single in the sixth to tie the game
at 5-5. The
Jimmies’ relief pitcher junior Adam
Walton (Quesnal, British Columbia) picked up the win after
going three and two-third innings allowing one earned run on
four hits with a pair of walks. PC’s sophomore Matt Boone (Kernersville,
N.C.) took the loss after pitching four innings of relief work
allowing two earned runs on three hits. Jamestown
was led at the plate by junior centerfielder Brent
Krause (Anoka, MN) and sophomore catcher Jed
Steiner (Dickinson, ND) who each went two-for-four with a
pair of runs scored. PC’s redshirt junior designated hitter Heath
McCutcheon (Newberry, S.C.) went two-for-five at the
plate with a pair of RBI. GAME
#2 — JAMESTOWN 9, PRESBYTERIAN 2 Jamestown’s
starting pitcher freshman Josh
Shaw (Great Falls, MN) led the Jimmies to a 9-2 victory in
the second game after going five innings allowing two earned
runs on seven hits while striking out three Blue Hose batters.
PC’s senior pitcher Kurt
Hitzeman (Americus, Ga.) took the loss (0-3) after
being touched for four runs, three earned on six hits in four
innings of work. The
Jimmies pounded out 13 hits for nine runs led by junior
outfielder Bret Krause (Anoka,
MN) who went four-for-four at the plate with two RBI and three
doubles. Sophomore catcher Jed
Steiner (Dickinson, ND) continued to hit the ball well in
the second game, going two-for-three. The
Blue Hose trailed 2-1 entering the fifth inning when Jimmies
struck for three runs to push the lead to 5-1. The inning was
highlighted by a two-RBI single from junior leftfielder Sam
Joseph (Kent, WA). Jamestown added four more runs in the
seventh to secure the win. Presbyterian College falls to 9-10 on the season while Jamestown improves to 7-1 overall. |
