BLUE HOSE DEFEAT #2 OWLS 10-8

Kennesaw, GA - Kip McAlister and Kevin White smashed home runs in the second inning to help the Blue Hose knock off #2 Kennesaw State 10-8 at Stillwell Stadium yesterday afternoon.

The Owls (16-5) chipped back from Presbyterian (10-10) lead all afternoon but a ninth inning rally fell short as Julius Thames grounded into a force play with the bases loaded.

Three two-out runs proved damaging for Kennesaw State in the top of the ninth inning. After a walk to McAlister (1-for-4) and a double by Davis Rice (3-for-5) the Blue Hose pushed their lead to 8-6. Richard Barkley (1-for-1) then ripped a double to right-center field scoring the final two runs of the game for Presbyterian.

Scott Conway (2-for-4) led off the ninth inning being hit by a pitch and Jon Love followed with a single to left field. With runners on second and third Clint Watters (1-for-4) brought home a run after the right fielder dropped a fly ball scoring Conway. Kennesaw State added another run on Dustin Atkinson's fourth hit of the day, a single scoring Love and bringing the Owls to within 10-8.

A pair of unearned runs in the top of the first inning put the Owls in a hole but Conway ripped a two-run double down the right field line to tie the game in the bottom of the first.

Starter Shane Hartness (0-1) ran into problems in the top of the second inning when he was tagged for a pair of two-run homers by McAlister and White.  Hartness lasted just eleven batters and allowed five hits and four earned runs.

Robert Cole picked up his first win of the season and the first of his collegiate career after scattering nine hits and striking out two batters in five innings of work.

PC will be back in action today as they take on the Screaming Eagles of the University of Southern Indiana in the first of a two-day series beginning at 2:30 pm.  The Owls are back in action this weekend when they travel to USC Aiken to take on the Pacers in a three-game weekend series.
