BLUE HOSE FALL IN DOUBLEHEADER TO KENNESAW STATE Kennesaw, GA- Travis Evans played his final game at Stillwell Stadium on Monday afternoon and showed signs of what has made him one of the best outfielders ever to don the Kennesaw State black and gold. The senior right fielder had two hits in each game as the Owls swept Presbyterian College 7-4 and 10-4. The twin bill was a late addition to the schedule as each team was looking to sharpen up as they head into their respective regionals on Thursday. The Owls head to Jacksonville to play Armstrong Atlantic in the South Atlantic Regionals while the Blue Hose travel to Lakeland, Florida to play in the South Regional. On the afternoon Evans had four hits, five runs batted in, a diving catch in right field and picked off a runner on first base after a fly out in the final inning of the second game. In the opener, Scott Conway and Scott Hendrix connected on back-to-back home runs in the four-run third inning to erase a 1-0 PC advantage. Conway's 17th blast of the season was a three-run shot that sailed into the trees in right field giving Kennesaw State a 3-1 lead. Hendrix, playing right field, followed with a blast into right center field to push the lead to 4-1.The Blue Hose took the lead in the top of the third inning when Phillip Hauserman singled to lead off the inning. Kip McAlister doubled down the left field line and Tombo Hite walked to load the bases. An error by shortstop Dustin Atkinson led to the lone run of the inning as winning pitcher Scott Bradley (2-0) settled down to prevent any further damage. Kevin Poole, Bradley, Adam Brandenburg and Grant Reynolds combined to give KSU their 34th win of the season. In the second game, Evans, who was 2-for-2 with a walk in the opener, ripped a two-RBI single in the first inning and then added a three-run home run in the third inning to propel the Owls to a 10-4 win. Kennesaw State ripped the Blue Hose for seven runs in the third inning taking a 9-0 lead. The monster inning was topped off when Jon Love smoked a bases loaded triple to the gap in left center field. Winning pitcher Shannon van Wyck (4-0) started and pitched two hitless innings before giving way to Sammy Reed who pitched the third and fourth innings. |
