SPOILS BLUE HOSE HOME OPENER 8-4 CLINTON,
S.C. — Lander University’s
sophomore shortstop Jeremy
Ryals (Murrels Inlet, S.C.) went three-for-five at the
plate to lead the Senators to a 8-4 win over Presbyterian
College in baseball action Wednesday afternoon. The game was the home
opener for the Blue Hose who fall to 1-3 on the season while
the Senators improve to 2-1. PC took an early 2-0 lead
in the third as the Blue Hose scored on wild pitch and a RBI
single by redshirt senior first baseman Matt
Warren (Lexington, S.C.). The Senators picked up a run
in the fourth and broke open the game in the fifth with four
runs to go ahead 5-2. Lander’s sophomore shortstop Kevin
Faulkner (York, S.C.) came off the bench to hit a two-RBI
double in the inning for the Senators and the Blue Hose
committed a pair of wild pitches and an error. The Blue Hose cut the lead
in the sixth on a pair of RBI singles by sophomore catcher Jonathan Wyman (Duluth, Ga.) and senior
second baseman Tombo
Hite (Abbeville, S.C.). The Senators took advantage of
three hit batters in the seventh by Blue Hose pitchers and a
RBI single by freshman rightfielder Jonathan Myers (Abbeville, S.C.) to score three runs and put the
game away at 8-4. The Senators were led at
the plate by Ryals who went three-for-five while junior
pitcher Nick Powell (Easley, S.C.) picked up the win after going five and
one-third innings allowing four earned runs on eight hits. PC was led at the plate by Hite who went a perfect five-for-five with an RBI while Warren went two-for-five. The Blue Hose used seven pitchers on the day with senior Kurt Hitzeman (Americus, Ga.) taking the loss after going four and one-third innings allowing five runs, four earned on six hits while tallying four strikeouts. |
