BARKLEY LEADS BLUE HOSE TO A 12-2 WIN
OVER MARS HILL
IN SAC BASEBALL ACTION

MARS HILL, NC — Mars Hill College’s baseball team (2-9/10-21) lost to Presbyterian College (7-5/17-21) today at Henderson Field by a score of 12-2.  The teams were able to play only a single game today due to morning rain that delayed the starting time because of poor field conditions.

A tremendous pitching performance by Richard Barkley (Sumter, SC) and solid hitting from Kevin White (Spartanburg, SC) and Matt Warren (Lexington, SC) led to the Blue Hose victory.  Presbyterian jumped out to a 7-0 lead after the first two innings of play and never looked back.  Barkley had a no-hitter going into the bottom of the eighth inning until Adam Hunter (Mars Hill, NC) doubled to right with one out in the frame.  Barkley ended the day allowing only three Lion hits and struck out 12 Mars Hill batters, pitching his fifth complete game of the season.  Barkley improved to 6-2 on the year with the win.

White was 4-for-5 at the plate with four runs scored and two solo homeruns. Warren went 3-for-4 with four RBI, two runs scored and one homerun. Joseph Bishop (Greenwood, SC) came off the bench to go 2-for-2 at the plate with a two-run homerun in the ninth.

Hunter and Justin Boone (Burnsville, NC) each hit doubles to lead Mars Hill.  Trinity Phillips (Mars Hill, NC) had the other Lion hit in the game.  Sean Murphy (Ft. Myers, FL) threw seven innings to take the loss (1-6) for Mars Hill.

The teams will complete the three-game series tomorrow afternoon.  The teams will play a double-header beginning at 1:00 p.m.
