LEADS BLUE HOSE TO 10-0 SHUTOUT OF INDIANS IN SAC BASEBALL
ACTION CLINTON,
S.C. — Presbyterian College senior pitcher Richard Barkley (Sumter, S.C.) pitched
a complete game shutout to lead the Blue Hose to a 10-0
victory over Newberry College in South Atlantic Conference
baseball action Saturday afternoon at the PC Baseball Complex. Barkley (7-2) dominated the
Indians hitters, allowing nine hits and no walks on the day
while striking out nine batters. With the win, Barkley lowers
his ERA for the season to 1.69 in 80.0 innings of work with 75

lively today as they pounded out 10 hits including a pair of
homeruns. PC opened the game in impressive fashion as senior
outfielder Tombo
Hite (Abbeville, S.C.) hit a solo homerun followed by
another solo shot from senior first baseman Matt
Warren (Lexington, S.C.) two batters later to put the
Blue Hose ahead 2-0. The Blue Hose held the 2-0
advantage going into the sixth inning when they added six runs
on five hits to expand the lead to 8-0. The scoring opened
with senior second baseman Davis Rice (Clinton, S.C.) scoring on a
wild pitch followed by a two RBI single from redshirt freshman
Matt
Bodie (Aiken, S.C.). PC picked up another RBI on a
fielder’s choice by senior catcher Dusty
New (Abbeville, S.C.) and the inning was capped off
with a two RBI single from Hite. In the seventh, PC pushed the
lead to 10-0 as Warren hit a RBI double and Bodie’s
sacrifice later in the inning scored Warren. Newberry’s starting
pitcher freshman Russell
Haltiwanger (Simpsonville, S.C.) took the loss to drop to
5-2 on the season after pitching six innings allowing eight
runs, six earned on eight hits while striking out six Blue
Hose batters. At the plate, the Indians were led by senior
outfielder Carlos
Gonzalez (New York, NY) who went three-for-four. PC was led at the plate by
junior outfielder Kevin
White (Spartanburg, S.C.) who went three-for-four with
two runs scored and extended his hitting streak to 30 straight
games. Hite went two-for-three with three RBI and a homerun
and Warren went two-for-three with three runs scored and two
RBI and one homerun. The Blue Hose improve to
19-22 overall and 9-6 in league action while Newberry drops to
20-22 overall and 7-9 in league play. These two teams return to
action tomorrow when they will compete in a doubleheader
starting at 1:00 pm at the PC Baseball Complex. |
