PRESBYTERIAN SWEEPS TUSCULUM IN SAC BASEBALL

GREENEVILLE, Tenn. -- The Presbyterian College baseball team got timely hitting and a pair of solid pitching performances as the Blue Hose swept host Tusculum College in a South Atlantic Conference doubleheader at Pioneer Park. Phillip Hauserman (Decatur, Ga.) recorded three hits in the opener to lead Presbyterian to a 6-5 win. In the night-cap, southpaw Travis Hill (Rock Hill, S.C.) scattered seven hits as PC won 6-3.

The Blue Hose even their overall record to 8-8 overall and 2-0 in league play, while the Pioneers (11-8, 0-2 SAC) have dropped three straight games.

The Blue Hose tallied a dozen hits, including multi-hit efforts by Hauserman, Davis Rice (Clinton, S.C.), Kevin White (Spartanburg, S.C.) and Matt Bodie (Aiken, S.C.). Tusculum answered with three runs in the fourth inning with the big hit coming from Mike Calano (Suwanee, Ga.) and his two-run double. Calano crossed the plate a batter later when David McMahon (Knoxville, Tenn.) singled him home for a 3-1 TC lead.

In the sixth inning, PC manufactured two runs when Hauserman led off with a single, stole second and scored on Davis' RBI single. Rice moved to second on a wild pitch at tied the game at 3-3 on Heath McCutcheon's (Newberry, S.C.) RBI double. Bodie gave PC the lead again on his second home run of the season, a solo shot to start the seventh inning. The Blue Hose added two more runs in the frame for a 6-3 lead.

Tusculum drew within one run in the eighth inning with a pair of markers, including Doug Hering's (Okeana, Ohio) two-out RBI double.

In the ninth inning, TC got runners at first and second with two outs, but Barkley got Tim Wallin (Springfield, Ill.) to fly out to end the game.
