SCREAMING EAGLES TAKE DOWN BLUE HOSE 7-4 IN BASEBALL ACTION

CLINTON, S.C. –Screaming Eagles senior pitcher Brian Anderson (Brazil, IN) went eight and two-third innings as he defeated the Blue Hose 7-4 this afternoon at the PC Baseball Complex.  With the win the University of Southern Indian snaps a five game loosing streak improving to 6-7 while Presbyterian falls to 10-11 on the season.

The Blue Hose got to Anderson early in the second inning as senior catcher Dusty New (Abbeville, SC) laid down the perfect bunt that stopped on the line down third base to advance junior right fielder Joseph Bishop (Greenwood, SC) to third.  Senior left fielder Tombo Hite (Abbeville, SC) followed suit and bunted to find his way to first and score New.  One out later senior short stop Davis Rice (Clinton, SC) crushed his first home run of the year over the left field fence to give the Blue Hose the four run lead.

After the impressive second inning Anderson silenced PC’s bats allowing only three more hits the rest of the day.   The Screaming Eagle starter scattered nine hits while striking out five in picking up his third win of the season.

USI got their first run of the day in the third inning and began to get to the Blue Hose freshman starting pitcher Ryan Ariail (Columbia, SC) in the fifth inning.  After a walk to the leadoff hitter sophomore first baseman Matt Keener (Newburgh, IN) doubled down the left field line to get his second hit of the day.  Keener would finish the day three-for-four with two runs scored.  A ground out by freshman third baseman Brent Perry (Versailles, IN) scored the first base runner and then a single by sophomore short stop Corey Goers (LaPorte, IN) scored Keener to bring USI to within one run.

In the sixth inning senior second baseman Adam Schiff (Evansville, IN) sent a bullet down the left field line that cleared the fence to tie the game at four.  USI put two more runs on the board in the inning to give them a 6-4 lead.  The Screaming Eagles got a little more insurance in the eighth inning when senior center fielder Steve Owens (Wauwatosa, WI) led off with a home run to deep left center field.

The Blue Hose threatened in the ninth inning after New doubled to left center with one out and a walk put another PC runner on the bases, but senior relief pitcher Bowie Johnson (Brazil, IN) came in and forced a slow grounder to Keener at first base to end the game as Johnson picked up his second save of the season.

PC and USI will face off again tomorrow in the final game of a long road trip for the Screaming Eagles.  The game is slated to begin at 1:00 pm at the PC Baseball Complex.
