PRESBYTERIAN AND WEST ALABAMA SPLIT DOUBLEHEADER IN BASEBALL ACTION 

CLINTON, S.C. — Presbyterian College (3-4) and the University of West Alabama (6-5) split games in today’s baseball doubleheader at the PC Baseball Complex. The Blue Hose won the first game 6-3, but the Tigers came back to win the second game 5-3. 

Game #1 — Presbyterian 6, West Alabama 3

Presbyterian College’s senior pitcher Davis Rice (Clinton, S.C.) picked up his first win of the season after throwing a complete game allowing three runs, one earned on nine hits while striking out five batters as the Blue Hose won 6-3. Preseason All-American, junior outfielder Kevin White (Spartanburg, S.C.) went two-for-three at the plate with a pair of RBI while Rice went one-for-three with an RBI as well. 

The Blue Hose broke open a close game with three runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to go ahead 6-1. The inning was highlighted by White’s two RBI single. The Tigers cut the to 6-3 in the top of the sixth on a two-RBI single by senior first baseman Freddie Vazquez (Columbus, Ga.), but the rally fell short. 

West Alabama’s starting pitcher junior Jason Herman (Marshfield, MO) took the loss after going four innings allowing six runs, two earned on five hits while striking out four batters.  Vazquez went two-for-three with two RBI to lead the Tigers at the plate.

Game #2 — West Alabama 5, Presbyterian 3

West Alabama’s senior outfielder Stephen Waggener (Canton, MS) went two-for-three at the plate with two runs scored as the Tigers won the second game 5-3. UWA pulled ahead 5-0 by scoring four runs in the top of the fourth inning. Junior outfielder A.J. Ray (Madison, MS) keyed the inning with a three-RBI single. PC cut the lead to 5-3 in the bottom of the sixth as White hit a two-RBI triple to lead the way, but the rally fell short in the seventh.  

The Blue Hose were led at the plate by White who went two-for-four with two RBI while sophomore outfielder Robbie Parrish (Myrtle Beach, SC) went two-for-four. Senior pitcher Kurt Hitzeman (Americus, Ga.) took the loss after going three and one-third innings allowing four runs on four hits.  

West Alabama’s starting pitcher sophomore Josh Allums (Demopolis, Ala.) improved to 2-0 on the season after going three innings allowing only three hits while striking out three batters. 

Presbyterian College and West Alabama return to action tomorrow as they will play a single game at 2:00 pm.
