HOSE BASEBALL WIN 5-4 IN EXTRA INNINGS OVER TIGERS CLINTON,
S.C. — Presbyterian College redshirt senior first baseman Matt
Warren (Lexington, S.C.) hit a game-winning single in the
bottom of the 10th inning to lead the Blue Hose to a 5-4
come-from-behind win over the University of West Alabama
Saturday afternoon in baseball action. The game entered extra
innings tied 3-3 before the Tigers pulled ahead 4-3 in the top
of the 10th inning on three straight pass balls including the
last which scored sophomore catcher Corey
Hayden (Livingston, Ala.). The Blue Hose started their
rally with one out in the bottom of the 10th as freshman
outfielder Nick
Hoffner (Ellicot City, Md.) walked followed by a
single from junior outfielder Kevin
White
(Spartanburg, S.C.). Warren’s two-RBI single in the
following at-bat gave PC the win. PC was led at the plate by
redshirt junior designated hitter Heath
McCutcheon (Newberry, S.C.) went three-for-three with
a homerun and a RBI. Senior catcher Dusty
New (Abbeville, S.C.) went four-for-four at the plate
while White went two-for-five with an RBI. West Alabama was led at the
plate by senior outfielder LeWayne
Allen (Pinson, Ala.) and junior shortstop Scott
Needs (Sydney, Australia) both went two-for-four at the
plate with a run scored. Blue Hose starting pitcher
redshirt junior Travis
Hill (Rock Hill, S.C.) picked up his first win of the
season after going seven innings allowing three runs (one
earned) on five hits while striking out four batters.
Tigers’s sophomore Clinton
Chambless (Livingston, Ala.) came in to pitch in relief
got the loss after getting one out in the 10th inning.
Starting pitcher senior Chris
Dimasi (Huntsville, Ala.) went eight and two-third innings
allowing three runs, all earned on eight hits while striking
out six batters. Presbyterian improves to 4-4 on the season and wins two out of three games from the Tigers. West Alabama falls to 6-6 on the season. |
