BLUE
HOSE, TROJANS SPLIT DOUBLEHEADER
ANDERSON,
S.C. - Senior Nat
McCarty pitched a four-hitter in the seven-inning second
game to lead Anderson College to a 7-1 victory over
Presbyterian College in the second game and a split of a
non-conference doubleheader Saturday afternoon at Anderson
Memorial Stadium.
In the first game, pinch-hitter Nick
Hoffner rapped a one-out double to score pinch-runner
Tyson Baxter in the top of the ninth and give the Blue Hose a
7-6 victory over the Trojans.
Anderson is now 5-10, while Presbyterian is 3-11.
In the first game, the Blue Hose jumped on Anderson starter Desmond
Robson for two runs in the first then took advantage of
sloppy Anderson fielding to score two unearned runs in the
fourth, and two more runs -- one earned and one unearned -- in
the fifth.
The big hit in the fourth for the Blue Hose was a two-out,
two-run single by Robert Rodebaugh.
Trailing 6-3, Anderson scored two runs in the seventh and a
single run in the eighth to tie the game at 6. Donavon
Schmidt and F.A. Vildosola both had RBI singles in
the seventh and Schmidt had another run-scoring single in the
eighth.
Rodebaugh led off the Presbyterian ninth with a single. He was
replaced by Baxter, who moved to second on a sacrifice and
scored on Hoffner's double.
Rodebaugh and Lance Howard
had two hits apiece for the Blue Hose in the first game and
Rodebaugh collected three RBI.
Robert Cook replaced
starter Ryan Ariail in the
seventh and allowed three hits and one run in 2 1/3 innings to
pick up the victory.
Anderson had 11 hits in the first game to 10 for Presbyterian.
The lone home run in the first game was a solo shot by
Anderson's Jonathan Pitts with two outs in the third.
In the second game, Kyle Lewis and Clint Neville
drove in two runs apiece for the Trojans. Lewis had a two-run
triple in the third, and Neville hit a two-run homer in the
fourth.
McCarty struck out five, walked two, and hit two. He got out
of bases-loaded jams in both the third and the fifth. He
retired nine of the final 10 he faced to secure the victory
for the Trojans.
The two teams will meet again for a single game on Sunday at
Clinton. First pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m.
