CLINTON, S.C. – The Carson-Newman Eagles completed a three-game sweep over Presbyterian College in the opening weekend of South Atlantic Conference baseball action, with a 7-3 victory over the Blue Hose on Sunday afternoon at the PC Baseball Complex.

PC (5-16, 0-3 SAC) jumped on the board in the bottom of the first when Clay Belton (Ridgeway, SC) reached on an error, advanced to third on an error and scored on a groundout by Evan Sowell (Chesterfield, SC).

Carson-Newman (13-9, 3-0) took the lead for good in the top of the fifth with four runs on four hits.

Jonathan Mary (Maryville, TN) and Jonathan McMahon (Charlotte, NC) both singled to start the inning. Mary later scored on an error. McMahon and Kyle Beall (Baton Rouge, LA), who had reached on an error, then moved to second and third on a sacrifice bunt. Nathan Gravley (Cartersville, GA) then doubled down the left field line to score McMahon and Beall. Brian Chapman (Tazewell, TN) knocked in the final run of the inning with a single to left.

After the Eagles scored a run in the top of the sixth, PC pulled within two with two runs in the bottom of the sixth, but it was as close as the Blue Hose could get.
