BOBCATS USE LATE RALLY TO DEFEAT BLUE HOSE 13-5

MILLEDGEVILLE, GA -­ Georgia College & State University blew open a close game with six runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to knock off Presbyterian College 13-5 Wednesday night at John Kurtz Field. GC&SU (12-10) pounded out 16 hits and took advantage of four Presbyterian (6-17) errors in the victory.

GC&SU jumped on PC starter Rob McEwen with three runs with two outs in the bottom of the first inning as John Caruso delivered a run-scoring single to plate Giuseppe Rivas, and Wes Sorrells chased him home with a two-run home run over the left field wall. Rivas added a two-out RBI single in the second inning to give the Bobcats a 4-0 lead.

The Bobcats led 5-2 after five innings, but the Blue Hose battled back with a pair of runs in the top of the sixth thanks to an error and a Nick Hoffner RBI single to trim the deficit down to 5-4. The Bobcats answered with two runs in the bottom of the frame and then exploded for six runs in the eighth highlighted by back-to-back home runs from Mike DeVeaux and Caruso.

DeVeaux finished 3-for-5 with three RBI, while Caruso was 2-for-5 with two RBI. Sorrells finished 2-for-4 with two RBI, while Kyle Schisler went 2-for-5 with a triple and two RBI.

Hoffner went 2-for-5 with three RBI, and Matt Sparrow went 3-for-3 with a double and two runs scored to lead the Blue Hose.

Jayson Bennett (2-1) picked up the win on the mound for the Bobcats after tossing his scheduled three innings without allowing a run and surrendering three hits with three strikeouts. McEwen (0-1) took the loss for the Blue Hose, allowing four runs, three earned, on four hits in 3.2 innings.
