BOBCATS EDGE BLUE HOSE IN EXTRA INNINGS CLINTON,
S.C. – Georgia College and State University scored a run
in the top of the tenth inning and then held off Presbyterian
College in the bottom of the inning to claim a 8-7
non-conference victory Tuesday afternoon at the PC Baseball
Complex. With two
outs in the tenth, Nick Waldrip (Athens, GA) was hit by
a pitch and was replaced by pinch runner Chris Pinns
(Norcross, GA). Pinns eventually came around to score on a
single by Justin Mills (Ivey, GA). PC (13-26)
forced extra innings with a run in the bottom of the ninth
after GCSU (23-15) had retaken the lead in the top of the
eighth. The Blue
Hose jumped on the board first with a run in the bottom of the
first before the Bobcats came back and scored one in the
second, on a homerun by John Caruso (Las Vegas, NV),
and two more runs in the third. GCSU added
a single run in the fifth before PC came back and took a 6-4
lead with five runs in the bottom of the sixth inning. Mills led
GCSU at the plate with four hits, two RBIs and two runs
scored. Waldrip added three hits for the Bobcats. Robert
Rodebaugh (Marietta, GA) and Evan
Sowell (Chesterfield, SC) both had two hits for the
Blue Hose. Michael
Newman (Evans, GA) picked up the win on the mound,
throwing four and two-thirds innings and allowing two runs on
five hits with one strikeout. Ross
Ellis (Kings Mountain, NC) took the loss for PC
despite allowing only one earned run in four innings of work. PC will be back in action Thursday as they travel to Claflin University for a 2 pm doubleheader. GCSU will be back in action tomorrow as they host the State University of West Georgia in a doubleheader beginning at 2 pm. |
