BEARS
SWEEP SAC DOUBLEHEADER FROM BLUE HOSE
CLINTON,
S.C. – Lenoir-Rhyne College held off a late Presbyterian
College rally in the second game to take a doubleheader sweep,
winning the first game 13-6 and 7-5 in the second, in South
Atlantic Conference baseball action Saturday afternoon at the
PC Baseball Complex. With the win, the Bears improve to 25-19
overall and 7-10 in the SAC, while the Blue Hose fall to 13-28
and 6-11.
GAME 1
Lenoir-Rhyne
scored two runs in five different innings and put up a three
spot in the fourth to roll to a 13-6 victory.
PC held a
3-2 lead heading into the third inning and were tied at four
after three, but the three runs in the fourth doomed the Blue
Hose. PC rallied in the bottom of the ninth with a pair of
runs on a homerun by Matt Bodie (Aiken, SC), but the
Bears induced a groundout to end the threat.
Matt
Keever (Hickory, NC) led the Bears with five hits,
including a homerun, and four RBIs. Matt Wiley
(Charlotte, NC) chipped in with four hits for LRC. Clay
Belton (Ridgeway, SC) and Bodie both had three hits for
the Blue Hose.
Jesse
Beane (Collettsville, NC) picked up the win, throwing
eight innings and allowing four runs on nine hits with six
strikeouts.
GAME 2
Lenoir-Rhyne
scored five runs in the third inning and then held off a late
Presbyterian College rally to take a 7-5 victory in the
nightcap.
The Blue
Hose pulled within one (6-5) off back-to-back homeruns by Lance
Howard (Simpsonville, SC) and Bodie in the sixth inning,
but the Bears scored a run in the top of the seventh to set
the final margin.
John
Pugh (Asheboro, NC), John Verdinek (High Point,
NC), and Derek Pugh (Asheboro, NC) all had two hits to
lead the Bears at the plate. Bodie was the only Blue Hose
player with two hits.
Jesse
Jordan (Englewood, FL) picked up the win, throwing five
innings, allowing two earned runs on four hits. John
Patterson (Hickory, NC) pitched two perfect innings to
pick up the save.
