LANDER HOLDS ON, DEFEATS BLUE HOSE 15-10
CLINTON,
S.C. – The #9-ranked Lander University jumped out to a
7-0 lead and then held on to defeat Presbyterian College 15-10
in baseball action Tuesday afternoon at the PC baseball
complex.
The
Bearcats (13-3) jumped on the board with a pair of runs in the
second inning before breaking through with five more on five
hits in the top of the third.
PC (3-13)
pushed across a run in the bottom of the fourth, but Lander
responded with three more in the top of the fifth to take a
10-1 lead.
The Blue
Hose began chipping away at the lead with three runs in the
bottom of the fifth, and after PC pulled within four (10-6),
the Bearcats put the game away with four runs in the top of
the eighth and another run in the top of the ninth, despite PC
scoring six runs over the last three innings.
Ryan
Roeder (Waterloo, Ontario, Canada) led Lander with four
hits and three RBI’s. Ryan Brisby (Kennewick, WA), James
Compo (Oregon City, OR), and Kevin Davis (Seattle,
WA) all had three hits to pace the Bearcats 19-hit attack. Lance
Howard (Simpsonville, SC) and Evan Sowell
(Chesterfield, SC) led the Blue Hose with two hits apiece.
Evan
Christian (Bluffton, SC) picked up the win on the mound
for Lander, allowing four runs on five hits in five innings of
work. Jim Wagers (Blackstock, SC) took the loss for PC.
PC will be
back in action Friday as they welcome Malloy College (NY) to
the PC baseball complex for a noon doubleheader. Lander will
be back in action tomorrow as they travel to Newberry, SC for
a 2:30 matchup against the Indians.
