LANDER DEFEATS BLUE HOSE 9-1

GREENWOOD, SC -- Senior Ryan Roeder belted a first-inning, three-run homer Friday night to lead the Lander baseball team to a 9-1 non-conference victory over Presbyterian College on Senior Night at Legion Field.

Lander improves to 27-23 overall, while Presbyterian drops to 17-36.

Lander seniors honored were Justin Dickson, Roeder, Jeremy Ryals, David Walton and David Wilson.

Wilson, who didn't allow a hit until the fourth inning, earned the victory on the mound to improve to 9-4. Wilson struck out six, walked one and allowed just one earned run on seven hits in eight innings pitched.

Presbyterian's Rob McEwen (1-4) took the loss, striking out three, walking two and allowing six runs (five earned) on six hits in three innings pitched.

Following Roeder's three-run homer in the first inning, Lander stretched its lead to 5-0 when Kevin Davis tripled, then scored on Ryan Brisby's ground out to second and Adam Strongman crossed the plate on Adam Hutchins' RBI triple. Lander extended the lead to 6-0 in the second inning when Walton, who reached on an error by the PC shortstop Andrew Cockerham, scored on Davis' RBI single.

The Bearcats took a 7-0 lead in the fourth when Jonathan Myers singled, stole second, then scored on Walton's RBI single.

The rout continued in the fifth inning when Ryals collected two RBI on a blooper single into left field which scored Brisby (walk) and Hutchins (hit by pitch) to make the score 9-0.

The Blue Hose scored their sole run of the game in the eighth inning when Evan Sowell doubled then went home on Russell Robinson's RBI single.

For Lander, Walton went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and one RBI, Roeder went 2-for-5 with one run scored and three RBI and Davis went 2-for-5 with one run scored and one RBI.

For Presbyterian, Robinson went 2-for-4 with one RBI and Clay Belton went 2-for-3.
