BLUE HOSE BASEBALL TAKES 8-4 VICTORY OVER LIMESTONE

CLINTON, S.C. – Presbyterian College scored in every inning but two and held off a late Limestone College rally to take a 8-4 victory in non-conference baseball action Thursday afternoon at the PC Baseball Complex.

After Limestone scored a pair of runs in the top of the first, PC (15-30) scored two runs of their own in the bottom of the inning. Nick Hoffner (Ellicot City, MD) homered to lead off the inning. Russell Robinson (Mt. Pleasant, SC) followed with a single and later scored on a sacrifice fly by Matt Bodie (Aiken, SC).

The Blue Hose took the lead for good in the bottom of the second when Matt Sparrow (Lake City, SC) doubled and scored on a fielder’s choice.

PC added two more runs in the bottom of the fourth when Sparrow singled and scored on a single by Evan Sowell (Chesterfield, SC). Donald Sheppard (Sylvania, GA) gave the Blue Hose a 5-2 lead when he scored on a single by Robinson.

PC then added single runs in the fifth and sixth and scored their final run of the afternoon in the seventh when Zach Matthews (Batesburg, SC) picked up his first collegiate hit and pinch runner Andrew Cockerham (Millers Creek, NC) scored on a groundout.

Hoffner, Robinson, Robert Rodebaugh (Marietta, GA), Sparrow, and Sowell all had two hits to lead the PC 15-hit attack. Matt Craig (Lincolnton, NC), Matt Reel (Marion, NC), Taylor Cook (Austin, TX), and Rob Boulknight (Leesville, SC) all had two hits to lead Limestone at the plate.

Ryan Ariail (Elgin, SC) picked up the win on the mound for the Blue Hose. Ariail, one of eight PC pitchers on the day, pitched one inning and struck out three.

PC will return to action Saturday as they travel to Greeneville, TN to take on Tusculum College in a 3 pm doubleheader.
