HOSE TAKE SERIES FINALE 10-9 IN 10 INNINGS CLINTON,
S.C. – Lance Howard’s
(Simpsonville, SC) sacrifice fly in the bottom of the tenth
inning scored Nick
Hoffner (Ellicot City, MD) to lift Presbyterian
College to a 10-9 victory over rival Newberry College in South
Atlantic Conference Baseball action Sunday afternoon at the PC
Baseball Complex. Newberry
(15-24, 5-10) forced extra innings with a run in the ninth on
an error and a passed ball. The Indians
jumped on the board in the top of the first with two runs, but
PC (13-25, 6-9) answered with four runs of their own in the
bottom of the inning. After
Newberry scored a run on a Matt Webb (Cheraw, SC)
homerun in the top of the second, the Blue Hose looked to take
control of the game with three runs, two on a homerun by Matt
Bodie (Aiken, SC) in the bottom of the inning. PC added
two more in the fourth before Newberry rallied to pull within
one with four runs on two hits in the top of the sixth. Bodie led
PC at the plate with three hits and four RBIs. Robert
Rodebaugh (Marietta, GA) and Donald
Sheppard (Sylvania, GA) also had three hits for the
Blue Hose. Dean Walker (Afton, TN) had three hits to
lead Newberry. Chris
Cornelison (Roswell, GA) picked up his first
collegiate win, throwing five innings in relief and allowing
one unearned run on three hits. Russell Haltiwanger
(Simpsonville, SC) took the loss for the Indians. PC will be
back in action Tuesday afternoon as they host Georgia College
and State University in a single game beginning at 3 pm.
Newberry will also be back in action Tuesday as they travel to
Florence, SC to take on Francis Marion in a doubleheader
beginning at 5 pm. |
