PROPELS ROLLINS PAST BLUE HOSE
WINTER
PARK, FL – The Rollins College
baseball team (8-4) scored four runs in the first inning and
then held on to defeat Presbyterian College (2-7) 6-2 to take
the first game of their four game series. Rollins
opened the game with all the support Eduardo Chile
needed as they scored four runs on four hits. Nick Manson
doubled to kick off the inning and scored on the very next at
bat when Juan Dieguez singled. Luis Dieguez
walked to put men at both first and second. Matt Gerber
hit into a fielder’s choice to move J. Dieguez to
third. He was then driven in by Mike Crane to give the Tars a
2-0 lead. Stefano Foggi pushed that lead up to 4-0 when
he doubled in Gerber and Crane. The
4-0 lead was all Chile needed as he gave up only four hits and
struck out eight, including getting out the leadoff batter in
every inning, four of which by strikeout. The Blue Hose did
pick up two runs against him in the top of the seventh,
however both were unearned. Lance
Howard scored on a fielding error, with Russell
Robinson later scoring on a triple by Clay
Belton. The
Tars picked up insurance runs in the sixth and seventh
innings. Crane drove in Ron Baptiste after he walked to
lead off the sixth and stole second. In the seventh, L.
Dieguez drove in J. Dieguez with and RBI double. Neither run
would be needed as the Tars bullpen shut the door on the Blue
Hose with two scoreless innings and four strikeouts. Both
Crane and Foggi had two RBI, while J, Dieguez added three
hits. Chile
moved to 3-0 on the season giving up only four hits and zero
earned runs in 7.0 innings pitched. Rob Cloar and Nick
Manson each pitched one inning of hitless ball, striking
out two and walking one, with Manson earning the save. Jim
Wagers picked up his second loss, giving up five
earned runs in 5.1 innings pitched to move to 0-2. The
teams square off again when they play a double header on
Saturday, February 19th at Alfond Stadium. First
pitch is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. |
