#20 YELLOW JACKETS ROLL PAST BLUE HOSE

CLINTON, S.C. – West Virginia State senior Nicholas Biron (Winfield, WV) pitched a complete game five hitter to lift the 20th-ranked Yellow Jackets to a 13-1 victory over Presbyterian College on a rainy afternoon at the PC Baseball Complex.

WVSU (14-5) jumped on the board early in the top of the first when senior Jonathan McDowell (Ronceverte, WV) hit a three-run homerun and sophomore Joshua Miller (Cattageville, WV) followed him with a shot of his own.

The Yellow Jackets ran their lead to 9-0 with five runs in the top of the second.

PC scored their lone run in the bottom of the second when sophomore Kemper Booth (Hendersonville, SC) reached on a fielder’s choice and scored on an error.

WVSU added to their lead with three runs in the fifth, highlighted by a two-run homerun by junior Kevin Goode (Brunswick, MD), and scored a single run in the eighth to set the final margin.

McDowell led West Virginia State with four hits and five RBI’s, while junior Robert Flinn (Parkersburg, WV) and Miller both finished with two hits apiece. No Blue Hose batter had more than one hit.

Biron picked up the win, allowing no earned runs on five hits with three strikeouts in eight innings of work. Robert Cook (Clinton, SC) took the loss for PC.

Both teams will be back in action tomorrow afternoon, weather permitting, with a single game beginning at 3:00 pm at the PC Baseball Complex.
