HOSE HOLD ON TO DEFEAT #25 YELLOW JACKETS 12-9 CLINTON,
S.C. – Presbyterian College scored ten runs over the
first four innings and then held off a West Virginia State
rally to take a 12-9 victory in non-conference baseball action
Wednesday afternoon at the PC Baseball Complex. PC (10-22)
scored two in the first before breaking through with four runs
in the second and two more runs in the third and fourth. The Yellow
Jackets (14-6) pulled within two (10-9) with a run in the top
of the eighth, but the Blue Hose plated two runs in the bottom
of the inning to seal the victory. Senior Jake
Lunnen (Sylva, NC) led the Blue Hose at the plate with
four hits and three RBIs. Juniors Evan
Sowell (Chesterfield, SC) and Matt
Bodie (Aiken, SC) both had three hits to pace the PC
16-hit attack. Senior Jonathan McDowell (Ronceverte,
WV) and junior Ryan Taylor (Morgantown, WV) led West
Virginia State with three hits. Freshman Eric
Tatum (Buford, GA) picked up the win on the mound for
PC, throwing three innings and allowing only one run on three
hits. Junior Robert Cole
(Savannah, GA) came on and pitched a perfect ninth to record
the save. Junior Chris Shores (Towanda, PA) took the
loss for the Yellow Jackets. The Blue Hose will be back in action Friday afternoon as they travel to Mars Hill College to take on the Lions in a South Atlantic Conference game beginning at 2 pm. West Virginia State will take the field against Newberry College tomorrow at 3 pm. |
