HOSE COMPLETE SWEEP OVER BULLDOGS CLINTON,
S.C. – Presbyterian College jumped out to a 4-0 lead
over the first three innings and then held on to take a 4-3
victory over Wingate University in South Atlantic Conference
baseball action Sunday afternoon. PC (9-21,
3-6) got on the board early in the first, when Evan
Sowell (Chesterfield, SC) walked and scored on a
single by Robert Rodebaugh
(Marietta, GA). The Blue
Hose added two more in the second on a Sowell sacrifice fly
and another Rodebaugh single. Matt
Bodie (Aiken, SC) gave PC a 4-0 advantage with a solo
homerun in the bottom of the third. Wingate
(11-22, 3-6) began chipping away at the lead in the fourth
when Josh Benton (Gold Hill, NC) homered. The
Bulldogs scored single runs in the fifth and sixth innings and
had two runners on base in the ninth, but PC’s Robert
Cole (Savannah, GA) induced a strikeout and a fly out
to end the threat. Rodebaugh
and Bodie both had two hits to lead the Blue Hose offensive
attack. Jay Barnes (Strasburg, VA) had three hits to
lead Wingate. Zach
Matthews (Batesburg, SC) picked up the win on the
mound for the Blue Hose, allowing only two earned runs in six
innings of work while striking out six. Cole picked up the
save. Andy McKinney (Matthews, NC) took the loss for
Wingate. PC will be back in action Tuesday as they welcome West Virginia State College to the PC Baseball Complex for a 3 pm game. Wingate will host Francis Marion University Tuesday. |
