HILL AND LYDA SIGN WITH BLUE HOSE BASEBALL

CLINTON, S.C. — Daniel Hill and Cory Lyda have signed national letters of intent to play baseball at Presbyterian College announced today by first-year head coach Elton Pollock.

Hill, a 6-3, 200-pound pitcher/infielder from Matthews, NC, currently plays for Charlotte Christian School and head coach Greg Simmons. He hit .397 at the plate while posting a 0.48 ERA on the mound en route to CISAA all-state and all-conference honors at third base. He was selected to the Westminister Invitational All-Tournament team during the team’s spring break trip to Florida this season. He has helped lead his team to a 44-11 mark in CISAA action over the last four seasons and three straight state championships (2003-05). During the summer he plays for the On Deck O’s and head coach Jason Hill.

“Daniel Hill is the prototypical college third baseman with tremendous upside,” said Pollock. “He is able to hit for average and hit for power and will make an immediate impact on our program. Daniel will also help the Blue Hose on the mound as a freshman, as he has been clocked at 89-90 mph with his fastball. We are happy to have him on board.”

Lyda, a 6-0, 175-pound pitcher/outfielder from Simpsonville, SC, currently plays for Hillcrest High School and head coach Steve Scolamiero. An All-Region performer, Lyda posted a .407 batting average at the plate while helping lead his team to a runner-up finish for the upper state championship in 2004.  During the summer he plays for the Hillcrest Traveling team and head coach Dennis Walker.

“Cory Lyda is dynamic outfielder and will contribute early in his Blue Hose baseball career. He has very good speed and has the ability to hit for average, power, and to execute when asked to do so. Cory will also compete for playing time on the mound, and should make an immediate impact.”

Hill and Lyda joins Evans Harris of Spartanburg, SC and Brad Rollison of Simpsonville, SC as members of the Presbyterian College Baseball Signing Class for 2005.
