BLUE HOSE STANDOUT RICHARD BARKLEY
SIGNS
WITH YANKEES ORGANIZATION
Barkley
assigned to Battle Creek Yankees of the Midwest League (A)
CLINTON,
S.C. —Former
Presbyterian College baseball player Richard
Barkley has been signed by the New York Yankees
organization announced today.
Barkley,
a 2003 graduate of the Blue Hose, has been assigned to the
Battle Creek Yankees of the Midwest League (A). The Yankees
are currently 14-11 in the second half of the season and in
second place of the Eastern Division. The team is 47-47
overall and continue a four-game series with the West Michigan
Whitecaps tonight at 7:00 pm.
Barkley,
a native of Sumter, S.C., was in his second season with the
Richmond Roosters of the Frontier League before being picked
up by the Yankees. He had a 4-3 record on the mound with an
ERA of 2.97 in 60.2 innings of work to go along with 64
strikeouts. Barkley will be one of four Roosters that were
named to the 12th Annual Frontier League All-Star Game that
was played on Wednesday, July 14 at T.R. Hughes Ballpark in
O’Fallon, Missouri.
