HOSE DEFEAT CRUSADERS 10-6 IN BASEBALL ACTION BELMONT,
N.C. —
Presbyterian College scored 10 runs on eight hits
and senior pitcher Travis
Hill (Rock
Hill, S.C.) picked up his third win of the
season as the Blue Hose defeated Belmont Abbey College 10-6 in
baseball action Wednesday afternoon at the Belmont Abbey Baseball
Complex. Presbyterian (23-20) opened the game scoring one run in the first and three in the third. In the top of the third, PC's senior outfielder Kevin White (Spartanburg, S.C.) nailed his 10th homerun of the season followed by senior Philip Hauserman (Decatur, GA) single that scored senior Curtis Bell (Gilbert, S.C.). Hauserman would also score in the inning on an error by Belmont Abby's right fielder for the early 4-0 lead. The Crusaders would get two runs back in the third and fourth innings. In the third, Chris Brake (Clemmons, NC) hit a single to drive in Derek Brown (Mastic Beach, NY) and in the fourth Josh Haire (Mooresville, NC) smacked a double to score Brandon Brooks (Wedgefield, SC). PC scored one run in the fifth with freshman Kemper Booth (Hendersonville, NC) hitting a single to drive in Lance Howard (Simpsonville, SC). However, Belmont Abbey came back to score three runs in the bottom of the sixth on three hits and one error. The inning was highlighted by Haire's double that scored two runs. With the game tied at 5-5, the Blue Hose were able to take the lead 6-5 with Hauserman hitting a sacrifice fly to score Bell. The Blue Hose added four more runs in the ninth to go ahead 10-5. The inning was highlighted by two doubles by White and freshman Robert Rodebaugh (Marietta, GA). In the bottom of the ninth, the Crusaders rallied for one run but fell short losing to the Blue Hose 10-6. PC's senior lefty Travis Hill picked up the victory for the Blue Hose while Eli Himes (Flomenton, AL) took the loss for the Crusaders. Presbyterian returns to action today against USC-Spartanburg at Spartanburg, S.C. with first pitch scheduled for 4:00 p.m. |
