Cole (Savannah, Ga.) picked up two victories last week against
Lander University and South Atlantic Conference opponent Mars
Hill College. Against Lander, the six-feet, 186-pound lefty
threw five innings allowing only one earned run while striking
out two batters. In the Mars Hill victory, Cole threw eight
innings allowing only two earned runs while striking out nine.
For the season Cole is 4-2 with a 5.50 ERA including 43 strikeouts,
which leads the team. Yount (Forest City, N.C.) hit .769 last week (10-for-13) as Wingate
University won a big South Atlantic Conference series at
Newberry College two games to one.
He was five-for-five with four RBI and a stolen base in
the first game of the series. For the weekend, he had a
double, a triple and eight RBI.
The 6-1, 205 pound right-hander was two-for-three with a triple and
two RBI in game two of the Newberry series. In league play, Yount leads the Bulldogs with a .441 batting
average and a .695 slugging percentage.
A 2003 Academic All-America third team pick, Yount is one of the
top clutch performers in the league, hitting .436 with runners
in scoring position for the season. The SAC position player and pitcher of the week are determined by
