JOHNSON
NAMED BLUE HOSE BASEBALL ASSISTANT COACH
CLINTON,
S.C. Mark Johnson has been named Presbyterian
College assistant baseball coach announced today by head coach
Doug Kovash.
Johnson, a 1997 graduate of
Methodist College, comes to Presbyterian College after
spending the last three years as an assistant baseball coach
at NCAA Division III Piedmont College in Demorest, Ga.
Mark Johnson will be a
huge asset to our staff at PC, said Kovash. He brings
valuable winning experience from his high school days in
Richmond, Va. to his playing career at Methodist College and
most recently for Piedmont College as an assistant coach. He
is an excellent recruiter with great people skills. His
knowledge of the game and positive attitude will rub off on
our players immediately.
Johnson replaces former
Blue Hose assistant coach Elton Pollock who resigned earlier
this summer to go into private business. Pollock will continue
his relationship with the Blue Hose baseball team as a
volunteer assistant coach this year.
Johnson will serve the
recruiting coordinator and will work primarily with the
pitching staff for the Blue Hose. He will also serve as
strength/conditioning/speed coach for the Blue Hose.
During his tenure with the
Piedmont Lions, Johnson assisted in recruiting, fund-raising,
field maintenance, and on-field instruction specializing with
the pitching staff while helping lead the program to a pair of
National Christian College World Series Tournament appearances
and the 2003 National Christian College South Region
Championship. He also served as a resident director at
Piedmont College for the last three years.
During his playing career,
Johnson helped lead Lee-Davis High School to a state
championship as a senior. He was a four-year letterwinner at
Methodist College as a pitcher earning All-South Region honors
as a junior while leading his team to three region tournament
appearances.
Johnson earned a Bachelors
of Science degree in Sports Management while minoring in
Business Administration from Methodist College in 1997. He
later earned his Masters of Business Administration from
Piedmont College in May of 2003.
This is a tremendous
opportunity that Coach Kovash has given me, said Johnson.
I feel that my time at Piedmont and Methodist Colleges has
prepared me for this step in my career. I am really looking
forward to becoming a member of such a great baseball program
and athletic department.
