April 17, 2004 Presbyterian Sweeps Lenoir-Rhyne, 13-8
And 6-3, In Baseball Hickory,
N.C. — Presbyterian
College swept Lenoir-Rhyne College, 13-8 and 6-3, in a South
Atlantic Conference baseball doubleheader Saturday afternoon
at Bears Field. PC upped its record to 25-22 overall and 11-9
in league play while L-R fell Game One-Presbyterian 13, Lenoir-Rhyne 8Behind the
strength of four home runs, Presbyterian rallied from a 7-2
deficit after five innings to overtake Lenoir-Rhyne for the
win. PC struck for eight runs in the top of the sixth inning
including Curtis
Bell's (Gilbert, S.C.) three-run home run and Robby Parrish's (Myrtle Beach, S.C.)
two-run blast. Kevin
White
(Spartanburg, S.C.) and Jake
Lunnen (Sylva, N.C.) also added home runs in the
contest for PC while Bell finished the game three-for-five
with four runs batted in. Sophomore
first baseman Matt
Sigmon (Catawba, N.C.) was the Bears' top hitter, going
four-for-five with four RBI. Presbyterian's Robert Cole (Savannah, Ga.) went the distance to pick up the win while Lenoir-Rhyne freshman Jesse Jordan (Englewood, Fla.) fell to 3-4 on the season with the loss. Game
Two-Presbyterian 6, Lenoir-Rhyne 3 (nine innings) After
escaping a bases-loaded, no-out jam in the eighth, PC put the
contest away with three runs in the ninth. Phillip
Hauserman (Decatur, Ga.) hit the game-winning RBI
double for the Blue Hose and was followed by Robert
Rodebaugh's (Marietta, Ga.) two-run double to make it
a 6-3 final. Lenoir-Rhyne
battled back from a 3-1 deficit with RBI singles from freshman
designated hitter Jordan
Ackley (Walnut Cove, N.C.) and junior catcher Brian
Tester (Sugar Grove, N.C.) in the fourth and fifth
innings, respectively, to tie the contest and force extra
frames. Rodebaugh
(three hits and two RBI) and White (two RBI) led PC
offensively while Zach
Matthews (Batesburg, S.C.) allowed two earned runs in
the complete-game victory. Senior Jeremy Krech (Rock Hill, S.C.), despite going the distance, took the
loss and fell to 3-6 on the year for L-R. The
Bears will celebrate Senior Day as they host Blue Hose in
their regular season finale Sunday at 1 p.m. |
