PRESBYTERIAN COLLEGE DEFEATS LANDER UNIVERSITY 8-5
 IN BASEBALL ACTION 

CLINTON, S.C. – Presbyterian College scored seven runs in the first two innings and held on to defeat Lander University 8-5 Wednesday afternoon at the PC Baseball Complex. 

Presbyterian College improves to 17-18 overall while Lander University falls to 25-12 on the season. 

The Blue Hose scored seven early runs in the first two innings to take the lead 7-0. In the first inning, PC's senior Kevin White (Spartanburg, SC) doubled off the leftfield fence to score freshman Ben Tankersley (Evans, GA). Then White would score on a single by junior Lance Howard (Simpsonville, SC) to put Presbyterian ahead 2-0. In the second inning PC would scored five runs highlighted by junior first baseman Jake Lunnen's (Sylva, NC) three run homerun.  

In the top of the fourth, Lander would cut the Presbyterian's lead to 7-2. Freshman Walter Cochrane (St. Clairsville, OH) doubled to drive in Kevin Faulkner (Smyrna, SC) and Cochrane scored on an error by Tankersley. 

The Blue Hose went ahead 8-2 in the bottom of the fourth with Lunnen hitting a single to score White. 

The Bearcats scored two runs in the top of the fifth and one in the top of the seventh but could not close the gap as the Blue Hose held on to win 8-5. Lander's Ryan Roeder (Waterloo, Ontario) smacked a two run homerun in the fifth and Jason Spivey (Lakeview, SC) would hit a solo homerun in the seventh. 

PC's sophomore Robert Cole (Savannah, GA) picked up his third victory of the season and White picked up his second save of the year. Lander's Jeremy Ray (Lugoff, SC) picked up the loss for the Bearcats.

Leading the Blue Hose at the plate were White (2-3) with two RBI and three runs scored and freshman catcher Kemper Booth's (Hendersonville, NC) who went three for four with one run scored. Lander was lead at the plate by Spivey (2-5) with one RBI and a run scored and Roeder who went two for four with two RBI and one run scored. 

Presbyterian returns to play this weekend for a three game series with SAC opponent Mars Hill College. The Blue Hose and Lions play a doubleheader on Saturday, April 3 starting at 12:00 noon and a single game on Sunday, April 4 with first pitch scheduled for 1:00 p.m. Lander University returns to action Saturday, April 3 at home for a doubleheader against North Florida.
