THE BRAVES SCORE THREE RUNS TO DEFEAT BLUE HOSE 3-0 CLINTON, S.C. – UNC-Pembroke College scored three runs and held Presbyterian scoreless to win 3-0 at the Presbyterian Baseball Complex today. The Blue Hose fall to (7-11) on the season while the Braves improve to (12-10) on the year. UNC-Pembroke's senior catcher Nick Hoffman (Baltimore, MD) singled to drive in sophomore Ty Rutlege (Wilmington, NC) in the top of the fifth. Freshman pitcher Max Fischer (Cumming, GA) in the same inning was able to get out of a jam by getting Quincy Wayce (Oxford, NC) to ground into a double play. The Braves scored their second run in the top of the sixth on a sacrifice fly by Andrew Rosen (College Park, MD) to score Tripp Lockhart (Lexington, NC). In the top of the seventh, UNC-Pembroke's Hoffman hit a sacrifice fly to leftfield to score Chris Beck (Havelock, NC) for a 3-0 lead. Presbyterian rallied in the bottom of the ninth with Jake Lunnen (Sylva, NC), Jonathan Wyman (Duluth, GA), and Matt Bodie (Aiken, SC) all reaching on singles to load the bases. However, the Braves right-hander Eric Stewart (Raleigh, NC) bared down and got a strike out and a ground out. Presbyterian's Fischer picked up the loss while UNC-Pembroke's Tyson Van Dam (Oak Harbor, WA) picked up his second win of the season. Van Dam pitched six complete innings allowing only three hits to the Blue Hose while striking out three. The Blue Hose return to action tomorrow at home against Belmont Abbey College starting at 2:30 p.m. while the Braves return to action Saturday, March 13 against Francis Marion University at home starting at 1 p.m.. |
