YELLOW JACKETS SCORE TWO RUNS IN THE NINTH TO WIN 4-2 OVER THE BLUE HOSE IN BASEBALL ACTION

CLINTON, S.C. – West Virginia State University rallied to score two late runs in the top of the ninth to defeat Presbyterian College 4-2 Wednesday afternoon at the PC Baseball Complex. The Blue Hose fall to (15-16) on the season while the Yellow Jackets improve to (19-6) on the year. 

Presbyterian led early with freshman Matt Sparrow (Lake City, SC) scoring on a sacrifice fly by senior third baseman Curtis Bell (Gilbert, SC) in the first inning. Sparrow would score again in the third with Bell hitting a single up the middle to put the Blue Hose ahead 2-0. 

However, West Virginia State came back to tie the game at 2-2 in the top of the fifth. Jerry Adkins (St. Albans, WV) tripled to score Robert Flinn (Parksburg, WV) then Dana Samples (S. Charleston, WV) smacked a double to bring in Flinn to tie the game at two runs apiece. 

The game stayed tied at 2-2 until the top of the ninth when the Yellow Jackets rallied for two runs. Samples hit a blooper over PC's second baseman Donald Sheppard (Sylvania, GA) that scored two runs. The Blue Hose could not rally in the bottom half of the inning and fell to the Yellow Jackets 4-2. 

West Virginia State's Ryan Hall (Charleston, WV) picked up his second win of the year while PC's Travis Hill (Rock Hill, SC) picked up the loss for the Blue Hose. 

Leading the Blue Hose at the plate was Sparrow who went 2-4 with two runs scored. The Yellow Jackets were led by Samples who went 2-4 with three RBI's and had the game winning hit. 

Presbyterian travels to Wingate, N.C. this weekend to face Wingate University in South Atlantic Conference play. A doubleheader is schedule for Saturday, March 27th at 12 noon and a single game on Sunday, March 28th at 1:00 p.m. West Virginia State College returns to action tomorrow afternoon to face Newberry College in Newberry, S.C.
