BAXTER AND MCEWEN
SIGN WITH BLUE HOSE BASEBALL
CLINTON,
S.C. — Tyson Baxter
and Rob McEwen have signed national letters of intent to play baseball
at Presbyterian College announced today by head coach Doug Kovash.
Baxter,
a 5-7, 165-pound catcher from Homer, Ga. currently plays for
Banks County High School and head coach Michael
Williams. This season Baxter is hitting .439 at the plate
with nine homeruns, nine doubles and compiled a .965 slugging
percentage while throwing out 75% of opponent’s baserunners.
He has earned All-Area honors as a sophomore and junior and
helped lead his team to the state playoffs “Sweet 16” as a
ninth-grader. During the summer he plays for the Post 7
Gainesville club and head coach Chris
Dyer. He received the “Mr. Hustle Award” on this team
this past season and help the club to a second place finish in
the region.
“Tyson
is an outstanding receiver with a plus arm,” said Kovash.
“He reminds me alot of Brad Teal, former Blue Hose standout
behind the dish. He’s a ‘fireplug’ with
great hustle and leadership ability. He will contribute
early.”
McEwen,
a 6-1, 176-pound left-handed pitcher from Batesburg, S.C.,
currently plays for Batesburg-Leesville High School and head
coach Greg Rollings. A first team All-Region performer, McEwen has led his
team to the state playoffs this season while compiling a 4-2
mark on the mound with a 2.90 ERA and 75 strikeouts in 53.0
innings of work. For his career, he has a 13-6 record on the
mound. During the summer he plays for the Carolina Clippers
and head coach Mike
Prochaska and helped his team finish runner-up in the
Wooden Bat World Series.
“Rob
is a lanky lefty with great stuff,” said Kovash. “ He has
three pitches and good command. He has a chance to contribute
early in his career and we look for Rob to be a major factor
as a South Atlantic Conference pitcher by his junior year. He
will be a great fit for PC.”

Cornelison of Roswell, Ga., Eric
Tatum of Buford, Ga., and Jim
Wagers of Blackstock, S.C. who signed in December as
members of the Blue Hose signing class of 2004.
