SWEEP BLUE HOSE IN SOUTH ATLANTIC CONFERENCE BASEBALL ACTION,
6-2 & 3-2 CLINTON, S.C.. The Tusculum College Pioneers sweep the Presbyterian College Blue Hose, 6-2 & 3-2 Saturday afternoon at the PC Baseball Complex. Presbyterian falls to 7-9 overall and 2-3 in the SAC while Tusculum improves to 11-10 overall and 2-0 in the SAC. Game 1- TUSCULUM 6, PRESBYTERIAN 3 The Pioneers struck early with Guy L'Connel (Perth, Australia) hitting a double to score Robbie Bouman (Sterling, VA) for a 1-0 lead. In the top of the third, Tusculum's Adam Hicks (Bristol, Tenn.) hit his fourth homerun of the year to give the Pioneers a 2-0 lead. Tusculum would strike again in the top of the sixth with Bowman connecting on his fourth homerun of the season over leftfield for a 3-0 lead. Presbyterian would rally in the bottom of the seventh for two runs on two hits. Robert Rodebaugh (Marietta, GA) led off the inning with a walk and then senior third baseman Curtis Bell (Gilbert, S.C.) connected on his first homerun of the season over leftfield to bring the game to 3-2 in favor of Tusculum. Tusculum would gain some insurance runs in the top of the eighth with Skip Talarek (Great Falls, VA) hitting a triple and driving in three runs for a 6-2 lead. Freshman pitcher Eric Butler (Morristown, Tenn.) pitched a complete game and picked up his first victory of the season while senior pitcher Travis Hill (Rock Hill, SC) picked up the loss. Game 2- TUSCULUM 3, PRESBYTERIAN 2 In game two, Presbyterian's senior centerfielder/pitcher Kevin White (Spartanburg, SC) led off with a homerun in the bottom of the first to give PC a 1-0 lead. Tusculum would tie the game at 1-1 in the top of the third with Bouman scoring on an error by Presbyterian. PC's junior leftfielder Lance Howard (Simpsonville, SC) broke the 1-1 tie with his first homerun of the season to give the Blue Hose a 2-1 lead. The Pioneers would not give up as they scored two runs in the top of the sixth to take a 3-2 lead over PC. Senior Aaron Frye (Lebanon, Tenn.) singled and was driven in on Mike Calano's (Suwanne, GA) third homerun of the year. The Blue Hose made a comeback attempt in the bottom of the seventh but came up short. With one out and runners on second and third, junior Jonathan Wyman (Duluth, GA) lined out to center and senior Philip Hauserman (Decatur, GA) was doubled up on the outstanding catch by the centerfielder. Tusculum prevailed 3-2 over Presbyterian in game two. Senior pitcher Kevin White picked up his second loss of the season while Chap Morris (Madison, VA) picked up the win. Both teams return to action tomorrow afternoon for a single game starting at 1 p.m. |
