TUSCULUM DEFEATS PC 12-4 IN SOUTH ATLANTIC CONFERENCE BASEBALL ACTION

CLINTON, S.C.. — The Tusculum College Pioneers defeated the Presbyterian College  Blue Hose 12-4 on Sunday afternoon at the PC Baseball Complex.

The Blue Hose fall to 7-10 overall and 2-4 in South Atlantic Conference play while the Pioneers improve to 12-10 overall and 3-0 in SAC play.

Game 1- TUSCULUM 12, PRESBYTERIAN 4

Tusculum led off the top of the first with two bunt singles by Josh Wolff (Louisville, KY) and Adam Hicks (Bristol, TN). Both Wolfe and Hicks would score in the inning for an early 2-0 lead for Tusculum. 

In the top of the third, Tusculum's Robbie Bouman (Sterling, VA) hit his fifth homerun of the season. After Bouman's homerun, George Hanger (Stauton, VA) doubled to bring in Guy O'Connell (Perth, Australia) for a 4-0 lead for Tusculum. 

The Blue Hose walked the bases loaded in the top of the fourth but junior pitcher Zach Matthews (Batesburg, S.C.) was able to get Presbyterian out of the jam with a pop out and two strike outs. 

The Pioneers broke the game open in the top of the fifth by scoring four runs on three hits. The inning was highlighted by Mike Calano's (Suwanee, GA) doubled that scored Skip Talarek (Great Falls, VA) and Hanger. 

Down 9-0 in the bottom of the seventh, PC's freshman catcher/first baseman Robert Rodebaugh (Marietta, GA) doubled to score freshman Ryan McAlister (Columbia, S.C.).

In the top of the eighth, Tusculum scored two more runs for a 11-1 lead. The bottom half of the inning, Presbyterian's freshman infielder John Berrian (Lexington, S.C.) hit a two run homer to bring the game to 11-3. 

Tusculum's Bobby Darling (Midlothian, VA) hit a homerun in top of the ninth for a 12-3 lead. The Blue Hose only managed one run in the bottom of the ninth and fell to the Pioneers for a final score of 12-4. 

Freshman Matt Galens (Louisville, KY) picked up the victory for the Pioneers while sophomore pitcher Ryan Ariail (Columbia, SC) picked up the loss for the  Blue Hose. 

Presbyterian returns to action Tuesday, March 9 against UNC-Pembroke at home with the first pitch schedule for 2:30. Tusculum returns to action tomorrow morning against Fairmont State University at Lander University with the first pitch scheduled for 10 a.m.
