Tuesday, February 21, 2006 PC DOWNS LIMESTONE 8-7 TO PICK UP SIXTH STRAIGHT WIN CLINTON, S.C. – The Presbyterian College Blue Hose defeated the visiting Saints of Limestone College 8-7 in a non-conference baseball match-up Tuesday afternoon at the PC Baseball Complex. With the win, the Blue Hose extend their winning streak to six games and improve to 7-5 on the season, while Limestone falls to 5-7 for the season. In the bottom of the ninth, senior outfielder Nick Hoffner (Ellicot City, Md.) stepped into the batters box with the bases loaded and no outs with the game tied at seven-all. Hoffner singled to left field to bring home freshman Cory Lyda (Simpsonville, S.C.) for the game winner. Limestone was down most of the game but was able to take the lead in the seventh inning when senior Matt Reel (Marion, S.C.) knocked a two-run homer over the left field fence. The Blue Hose battled back in the bottom of the eighth to re-take the lead by one when freshman Daniel Hill (Matthews, N.C.) stole home on a failed pick-off attempt to first by relief pitcher Daniel Phillips (Gaffney, S.C.). Limestone tied the game up in the top of the ninth inning when junior Joey Asis (Gastonia, N.C.) scored on a double by fellow junior Taylor Cook (Austin, Texas). PC relief pitcher Steven Henry (Hoschton, Ga.) picked up his first win for PC on the season. Starter Jason Gold (Shelby, N.C.) got the loss for Limestone. PC hits the road Wednesday to face Augusta State University at 2:30 and will return home on Thursday to play Montreat College in a double-header at 1:00 before heading to the SAC preseason tournament this weekend. |
