Thursday, February 23, 2006 BLUE HOSE DROP A PAIR TO MONTREAT COLLEGE 5-3, 2-1 CLINTON, S.C. - The Presbyterian College Blue Hose dropped a double-header to visiting Montreat College today 5-3 and 2-1. With these losses the Blue Hose drop to 7-7 on the season, while Montreat improves to 4-5. Game 1 Montreat 5, PC 3 The game was held scoreless until the third and fourth innings when Montreat scored a couple of easy runs to go up by two. The Blue Hose answered back in the bottom of the seventh to send the game into extra innings. In the ninth each team scored a run. But, Montreat picked up two more unanswered points in the top of the tenth to end the game. Montreat left-hander Jason Adkins (Jacksonville, N.C.) picked up the win, improving his record to 2-0. PC’s junior reliever Ross Ellis (Kings Mountain, N.C.) got the loss on the day, dropping his record to 1-1. PC’s sophomore centerfielder Clay Belton (Ridgeway, S.C.) lead the way for the Blue Hose picking up three hits and two RBI. Dane Phillips (Charlotte, N.C.) led Montreat in hits with three. Game 2 Montreat 2, PC 1 PC kept it interesting in the second game of the twin bill giving up only five hits in seven innings of play. Montreat scored right out of the gate in the top of the first. PC answered back the next inning to tie the game at 1-all. Montreat junior Chris Limpach (High Point, N.C.) homered to push Montreat back on top. Belton was representing the tying run in the bottom of the seventh, but was left on base when freshman Cory Lyda (Simpsonville, S.C.) grounded out to the shortstop. Belton lead PC and all batters with two hits in the second game. PC starter Parker Suit (Macon, Ga.) got the loss on the day, dropping his record to 0-2. Montreat’s Matt Braswell (Lenoir, N.C.) pitched all 7 innings to pick up the win for Montreat. Braswell picked up his first win for the season. PC hits the road this weekend for the SAC Preseason Tournament in Kannapolis, N.C. |
