PC FALLS TO CATAWBA IN SAC BASEBALL ACTION, 9-1

CLINTON, S.C.- Catawba College defeated the Presbyterian College Blue hose today in South Atlantic Baseball action at the PC Baseball Complex, 9-1. This is the fourth win Catawba has against the Blue Hose this season. With the win Catawba improves to 23-5 on the season and a perfect 6-0 in SAC action. PC falls to 8-20 for the season, 0-6 SAC.

Catawba struck quickly and never looked back, scoring five runs in their first three appearances at the plate. In the first Jimbo Davis knocked one over the fence to bring in Mark Smith who had reached on an error.  In the third inning, Matt Smith, Mark Smith and Jerry Sands each singled to bring in a runner. 

Catawba sealed the deal in the fifth inning when they capitalized on two Blue Hose errors scoring two runs. Matt Smith drove in David Thomas on a single and Chad Baker drove in Sands on a sacrifice fly to stretch out their lead 9-0.

PC’s only run of the game came in the bottom of the sixth when sophomore Casey Carlson (Lexington, S.C.) doubled and was then brought in on a single hit up the middle by junior Kyle Craven (Savannah, Ga.). Craven led the Blue Hose hitters with three hits and one RBI.

Thomas and Matt Smith posted two hits apiece for Catawba. Catawba starting pitcher Alex Fairweather improves his perfect record to 5-0. Steven Henry (Hoschton, Ga.) picks up his second loss for PC on the season.

PC returns to action this week as they head to No. 30 Erskine on Tuesday and meets up with No. 11 Francis Marion on Wednesday before continuing their SAC schedule next weekend at Wingate.
