WINGATE FALLS TO PRESBYTERIAN IN SAC BASEBALL ACTION

Wingate, N.C.----The Wingate University baseball team lost a South Atlantic Conference game to Presbyterian College Saturday at Ron Christopher Stadium and Plyler Athletic Field on the Wingate campus. Presbyterian used an eight run sixth inning to defeat the Bulldogs 13-7.

Wingate falls to 10-23 overall and 2-7 in the SAC. Presbyterian is 10-23 on the season and 2-7 in the SAC. Wingate will travel to Francis Marion on Tuesday for a 7 p.m. start.

Presbyterian jumped out to an early lead with four runs in the opening frame.  Blue Hose sophomore outfielder Casey Carlson (Lexington, S.C.) led off the game with a home run and senior third baseman Matt Bodie (Aiken, S.C.) delivered a two RBI double in the inning.

The Bulldogs responded with a pair of runs in each the first and second innings to tie the score at 4-4. Wingate freshman outfielder John Kellett (Huntersville, N.C.) notched a two RBI single in the Bulldog second inning.

Presbyterian took the lead in the third, when Bodie scored on an RBI fielder’s choice by senior second baseman Evan Sowell (Chesterfield, S.C.).

Wingate wasted no time responding in the bottom of the third on a solo home run by junior first baseman Josh Benton (Gold Hill, N.C.). Benton connected for his ninth home run of the season.

The game remained tied until the Blue Hose sent 13 batters to the plate and scored eight runs on 10 hits in the sixth inning. The Presbyterian rally was highlighted by a two-run home run from sophomore first baseman Russell Robinson (Mt. Pleasant, S.C.).
