PC TAKES SHUTOUT WIN OVER MARS HILL 5-0

CLINTON, S.C.- Senior Matt Bodie (Aiken, S.C.) led the Presbyterian College Blue Hose at the plate with three hits and three RBI to win their third South Atlantic Conference game of the season against the visiting Mars Hill College Lions, Sunday afternoon at the PC Baseball Complex, 5-0. With the win PC improves to 11-27, 3-9 SAC on the season while Mars Hill falls to 17-19, 6-6 SAC.

Freshman Cory Lyda (Simpsonville, S.C.) represented PC’s first run when he scored off an error in the third inning. Sophomore Russell Robinson (Mt. Pleasant, S.C.) added to PC’s tally when he crossed the plate when Lyda grounded out to second base. Senior Nick Hoffner (Ellicot City, Md.) then nudged the score to 3-0 in the fifth when he scored on an error.

The highlight of the game came in the seventh inning when Bodie hit a rocket over the left field scoreboard to bring in junior Kemper Booth (Henderson, N.C.) and set the final score at 5-0.

Mars Hill had many opportunities to even the score but were unable to cross anyone over the plate. Clarke Rollins led Mars Hill’s effort at the plate with three hits.

Starter Stephen Henry (Hoschton, Ga.) improved his record to 3-2 on the season as he picked up the win for PC. Relief man Parker Suit (Macon, Ga.) came in and picked up the save for PC in the sixth. Mars Hill starter Brendan Van Popering got the loss on the day.

PC resumes play on Tuesday when they host USC-Upstate at the PC Baseball Complex at 2:30 p.m
